The news of the match was announced on USSoccer.com, the official online home for the various US  national squads, and was also confirmed by Thai-language national news outlet, Thairath here.

As of June 24, the US WNT were the world’s top ranked squad by FIFA rankings, while Thailand were ranked 30th.

The US WNT, the reigning Fifa World Cup champions, opened their Olympic Campaign on August 3 in Brazil with a 2-0 win over New Zealand (17th), and are due to take on France (3rd) and Colombia (24th) in their remaining group G matches on August 6 and 9, respectively.

Though failing to qualify for the Olympic tournament, the Thai “Lady Elephants” impressed last year when they made their debut in the FIFA World Cup in Canada, where they beat Ivory Coast 3-2, and lost to powerhouse teams Norway and Germany, with identical 4-0 scorelines to finish their journey at the group stage.

The US WNT went on to win that tournament.

Kickoff time for the September 15 friendly between Thailand and the USA will be confirmed at a later date on USSoccer.com
