Played in front of just over 4,200 fans at Surakul Stadium, the match was both side’s third of the 34-fixture YL1 season.

Phuket charged ahead in the 8th minute through French midfielder, Geoffry Doumeng. An initial strike by Sakareya Kolae was blocked by Si Racha’s Japanese keeper, Kochi Jun.

However, the deflected ball went straight to Doumeng, who in a simple touch scooped the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.

Less than 10 minutes after that, the home team doubled their lead with Luiz “Dudu” Purcino beating his defensive markers in a foot race on the deep right wing before sending it home.

The Si Racha ‘Blue Marlins’ were back in contingent with a goal by Sutjarit Chantakol late in the first half, who converted a corner kick making the score 2-1.

However, the Southern Sea Warriors extended their lead 10 minutes into the second half. An initial shot at goal by Doumeng was blocked by Si Racha’s keeper, diverting the ball directly to Dudu, who failed to miss his mark, sending the crowd into instant euphoria.

Despite multiple chances in the remainder of the match, neither side was able to alter the 3-1 score line.

Doumeng was subsequently named “Man of the Match” for his strong performance that included a goal and an assist.

Bagging their first — but certainly not their last — three-points this season, Phuket immediately moved up into third place of the 18-team YL1, with five points, while Si Racha linger at the bottom with only one point from their first three games.

Phuket FC’s next match is a Toyota Cup match against fellow YL1 power-side, PTT Rayong FC. Scheduled for Saturday, March 23, the match will be played at Surakul Stadium with a 6:30pm kickoff.

Then, the team will hit the road to play their next YL1 fixture away to TTM Lopburi on March 31, before returning home to play Royal Navy on April 7.
