SOCCER: An injury-time goal by star Brazilian striker, Luiz “Dudu” Purcino, was enough for Phuket FC to bag three points tonight against Yamaha One League rivals, Khon Kaen FC.

The highly anticipated goal, scored only minutes into the five minutes of extra time allotted by the officials following a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, sent thousands of fans at Phuket’s Surakul Stadium into a celebratory frenzy.

The result puts the Southern Sea Warriors in third place of the 18-team YL1 league, while the Khon Kaen FC “T-Rex” were buried back down into 15th with only five points, all to the dismay of a busload of fans who’d bused it down from the gateway to Isaan – Thailand’s Northeast.

Phuket is now one of four teams with 15 points at the top of the table. PTT Rayong’s holds the highest spot after defeating Rayong United at PTT Stadium in an industrial seaboard derby match.

Although PTT Rayong has only scored eight goals in seven matches (the ninth highest in the league) the team is on the top because it has the highest goal difference (+6), having only conceded two goals.

And although both Phuket  and BBCU also have 15 points, both with goal differences of +5, the latter seized second for scoring more goals than Phuket (10 to 9).

Phuket and BBCU would have been tied joint-second, hadn’t BBCU defeated 7th placed Krabi FC (0-1) in an away match in Krabi tonight.
