Hello, I am looking for a recipe for Jok(congee) Thai rice porridge soup. Can you make it in the rice cooker? What is the ratio of water to rice? Thanks to anyone who can help!

  2. Sorry for the slow response. On the internet, there seems to be many recipes for โจก Jok. Here is an example recipe from

Boil jasmine rice with water, salt, and oil on medium heat. Keep stirring constantly until the rice is very soft and breaks apart (30-45 minutes).

Prepare the traditional stock using bullion cubes or pork bones.

Scoop about 1 1/2 cups cooked rice into another medium sized soup pot with 1 cup broth. Bring it to a boil, stirring, and season with a bit of soy sauce. Adjust the flavor as you prefer.

Transfer to a serving bowl. Top with cooked seafood, mushroom, onion and cilantro. Sprinkle with Thai pepper powder. Add a touch of dried ground chile at the end for added flavor. Serve hot and enjoy!

Next time you're in Thailand, you should stock up on a the instant congee packets available everywhere: Simply add hot water and other fixings. Good stuff!
