I once was was told by a Thai scholar that when King Mongkut offered President Lincoln a gift of
elephants during the Civil War and that gift was refused by Lincoln that the King was some what
offended. As the story was told to me a gift is never refused from a King. Would the King have been
offended by such a refusal?

Psoriasis is a disease whose main symptom is gray or silvery flaky patches on the skin which are red and inflamed underneath. In the United States, it affects 2 to 2.6 percent of the population, or between 5.8 and 7.5 million people. Commonly affected areas include the scalp, elbows, knees, arms, stomach and back. Psoriasis is autoimmune in origin, and is not contagious. Around a quarter of people with psoriasis also suffer from psoriatic arthritis, which is similar to rheumatoid arthritis in its effects. Psoriasis was first given that name in complete differentiation from other skin conditions by the Austrian dermatologist Ferdinand von Habra in 1841, although there are what are believed to be descriptions of the disease in sources going back to ancient Roman and possibly even biblical times.

I'm planning to do another trip from Bangkok to Phuket and back towards the end of this month, May if not the beginning of next month, June, 2008. Last time I went in March, I went alone, but wouldn't mind company to drive along with me this time. It's quite a scenic trip and can comfortably be done in two days, or even three or more with lots of sightseeing thrown in. I'm planning to bring along a tent this time to set up camp along the beach somewhere, perhaps in Chumporn or Prachuap. Anyone in Thailand around that period, and interested in joining me, please don't hesitate to contact me

The following message was transcribed from an email inquiry

I have been reading your piece on Thai conscription. In it you were talking about the 6 year struggle becoming registered as a Thai national. My son, whose mother is Thai, wants to get a Thai passport and he is just getting started on this road.

He lives in the U.S. and his first step is getting a Thai birth certificate. Then they said he has to apply for a temporary Thai passport that is good for one year. Once in Thailand he has to add his name to the house registration to obtain the Thai ID. After going through this process he can apply for a Thai passport.

It seems to me that this is unrealistic if it took you six years to get the house registration and thus a Thai ID. In addition, he thinks that since he is 30 the Thai conscription laws don't apply to him. What do you think?

WHY DID THIS ATTORNEY TAKE 10 STRANGE MEN TO OUR HOUSE KNOWING WE WERE NOT

Dear Jao Moragoat,

I have a question I would like you to help me with. My husband and I were students in the U.S., where our daughter was born, giving her the right to be a U.S. citizen. However, my husband and I have to return to Thailand when our visas expire, and so we will have to bring back our daughter (to Thailand) with us.

Actually, I would prefer her to study here (US) as it would be free. I would like to know if you know of any school in Thailand for American kids that can study for free. I’m so confused as I want our kid get language skills, however, we don’t have money to send her to international school for that (in Thailand) as it is so expensive. Please kindly assist us with your reply.

Gratefully

Bangkok/Pattaya to Phuket, back and everything in between.

On Saturday, June 7, 2008, American expat, Klaus Kent and the Siamerican Wanderer departed Klaus's Jomtien (beach-town south of Pattaya)condo in Kent's new Mitsubishi Triton Diesel truck with the Siamerican's Kawasaki ZX 130 snuggly tied down to the bed.

Armed with clothes stuffed Packs, Notebook computers, Maps, a guitar, and a craving for adventure, the two set off with a loose itinerary of making the Phuket destination within three days, allocating time to make overnight stops along the enchantment promising Isthmus of Kra crossing route.

After eight days in Phuket, the two made their way back, deciding on a different route to get across the scenic rich Isthmus of Kra. Several days later, they would find themselves in the place where they had begun trying to piece together the last few weeks' sights, sounds, memories, significance, purpose, and value.

Sunday night--Live from Bangkok, the Siamerican warmly wishes the Thai-American world a Happy Songkran Holiday!

Enjoy your water fights, social gatherings, and traditional ceremonies, but never forget that aside from a time of joy and celebration, Songkran (and festivals in general) is dually a time of woe for many--those that which have experienced, are experiencing and soon will experience major loss(es).

IOW, cherish your life and that of your loved ones, keeping yourself out of vulnerable and jeopardizing situations!

This year (Chinese year of the Rat) May you all cherish that which is fundamental in your existence, so that you may continue to prosper for quality cycles to come.
